If you were to ask me when I started watching wrestling, I actually wouldn’t be able to tell you. That’s because I can’t remember a time when I was NOT watching wrestling. I cried when Andre the Giant won the WWF Championship from Hulk Hogan. I recently showed my wife the Macho Man Randy Savage versus Ultimate Warrior match from WrestleMania VII because I think the angle after the match is one of the greatest bits of storytelling I’ve ever seen in my life. At one point in my life, I couldn’t wait for the weekend to be over just so I could watch Monday Night Raw. I became connected to several of the best friends I’ve ever had through wrestling. I jumped off the couch when I heard “Cult of Personality” on Raw this summer for the first time. I love pro wrestling.
It’s hard to explain why I love it so much. In the end, I think it’s just comforting to know that no matter what else is going on in the world, if you throw a guy to the ropes inside a wrestling ring, for some reason he will run back at you and be vulnerable to attack. Unless you drop your head too soon – rookie mistake.
