MATCH #1: Undertaker vs. Damian Demento, Monday Night RAW #1, 1.11.93

Demento tries throwing punches but they have little effect. He drops his head and Undertaker slams his face into the mat. Undertaker goes up and hits Old School. He whips Demento into the corner and then runs into a boot. Demento gets a little bit of offense in, even taking Undertaker off his feet! Undertaker comes back with the flying clothesline and then hits the Tombstone Piledriver to get the pin at 2:24. I guess having Undertaker being in the main event is kind of a big deal, but for their first show they didn’t really light the world on fire did they? Imagine if Nitro was on the air at this point.

MATCH #2: World Tag Team Championship TLC Match – Kane vs. Bubba Ray Dudley & Spike Dudley vs. Christian & Chris Jericho vs. Jeff Hardy & Rob Van Dam, RAW #489, 10.7.02

Kane & The Hurricane have been the Champions since 9.23.02, and this is their first defense. Hurricane was attacked by Triple H and Ric Flair earlier in the night so Kane is going to have to go it alone. It’s chaos from the start and everyone seems to want to go after Kane, which makes sense given that he has no partner. Even so Kane looks strong and determined. He takes RVD and Hardy out with a simultaneous clothesline, and then throws Hardy to the floor where everyone else is. Back in the ring Bubba uses the ladder like a helicopter on Jericho and Christian, and then gets it kicked back into his face by Kane. RVD and Hardy then take Kane to the floor. This is going to be hard to keep up with. Multiple ladders are used as everyone is trying to use everything they can to get an advantage. Kane gets laid out on a table and Hardy blasts him with a chair. Hard then climbs a ladder and jumps off to put Kane through said table. Almost everyone is laid out as they take the first commercial break. Back to the match and Bubba is setting up ladders. RVD climbs another one and Jericho joins them. Jericho takes Bubba down with a bulldog and Christian takes RVD down with the inverted facelock backbreaker. Spike climbs up but Christian takes him down. Christian climbs up and Kane pushes him over. Kane powerslams Hardy and sends him to the floor. Jericho attacks Kane with a chair, and then turns it on Bubba Ray. RVD takes Jericho out with a spin kick. Hardy comes back in and uses Bubba to hit Kane with Whisper in the Wind. He then holds a chair in front of Kane as RVD hits the Van Terminator! Hardy suplexes Jericho on top of a ladder. Christian goes up top and Hardy slams him down on top of a ladder. Ouch. Hardy climbs up and Bubba joins him to superplex him down. Jericho finally makes it up to the top and Spike pushes him all the way to the floor in a nasty bump. Spike tries to get the belts but Christian pulls him down. Christian can’t follow up initially, but when Spike goes for the Dudley Dog Christian shoves him over the top rope and to the floor through a table! Christian climbs the ladder and Bubba takes him down with a Bubba Bomb! RVD hits Christian with the Five-Star Frog Splash! Hardy goes for the Swanton but Bubba moves out of the way. Bubba then backdrops Hardy over the top rope and through a table! RVD hits Bubba with the Van Daminator. He goes up top and Jericho cracks him with a chair. Jericho puts on the Liontamer a la Unforgiven 2001. RVD falls to the mat and rolls to the floor. Kane joins Jericho on top of the ladder and Chokeslams him all the way down to the mat! He sits up and climbs to the top of the ladder and retrieves both belts at 25:10. It’s a shame for Hurricane that he didn’t get to be a part of this match. I think time has been kind to this one, as it’s much better than I remember it being. The spots were big and well placed, and outside of Kane everyone worked their tails off. This is really fun chaos but a step below the first three TLC matches.
